1.     EVENTS FROM 1945 TO 1950

After the Second World War from 1945, many communities in Europe and other parts of the World are rebuilding their economies and professional bodies.   This was the same for the formation of the International Association of Health Care Professionals (IAHCP), when many healthcare professionals are trying to find ways of improving their professional standings and networking opportunities.

As was the case above, the origins of the International Association of Health Care Professionals (IAHCP) date back to 1945 when, throughout Europe and other parts of the World, medical societies began to be founded with the object of bringing together physicians and surgeons in order to further scientific, professional and social communication. Most of the Colleges, Societies and Associations in the World are formed for singldisciplines for example, Physicians, Surgeons, Nurses,  and Therapists.  However, there is no one association for multiprofesional Health  Care  Professionals  anthe  need  for  such  association  was echoed by various multidisciplinary health care workers Worldwide during various meetings and conferences from 1945 to 1950.

2.     FROM 1950 TO 1956

From 1950 to 1954, various discussions, correspondences and official letters were exchanged amongst healthcare professionals across various continents, Europe, the Americas, Australia and New Zealand for the formation a common association, which will cater for the needs of all healthcare professionals and the communities they serve worldwide.

In 1955, a group of healthcare professionals led by Dr Stefan Borg of Sweden began some consultations with colleagues across America and Australia for the formation of a multidisciplinary association of healthcare professionals where healthcare workers will interact with the main aim of promoting patient care and education worldwide.

3.     FROM 1956 TO 1957

In 1956 a working party led by Dr Borg was initiated, who met in June and October 1956 in Stockholm, Sweden to discuss the aims and objectives of the new Association.  The group’s recommendations were circulated among the interested professionals worldwide and it was agreed that the first annual meeting of the Association will be held in May 1957 in Stockholm, Sweden.

During the meeting of May 1957, Dr Francis Butler of the USA was elected the first General President of the Association (from 1957 to

1965) and 11 Council Members were also elected.

The first Council Members from 1957 have included Dr Jan Holm (Sweden), Dr Maria Jose Ronaldo (Portugal), Dr Joseph Martin (USA), Dr  AndreForget  (France),  Mr  Paulo  Lopez  (Spain),  Dr  Phillip Stevens  (Australia),  Dr  PauMurray  (New  Zealand),  Dr  Anthony Phelps (USA),   Dr Jan Larson (Denmark), Dr Martin Magnusson (Iceland) and Dr James Bell (Canada).
